    What We Haul Away

    • Furniture: sofas, mattresses and box springs, dressers, tables, office desks and chairs
    • Household clutter: boxes, décor, rugs, closet and garage items
    • Appliances: refrigerators, washers, dryers and other large appliances
    • Exercise equipment: treadmills, bikes and weight benches you don’t plan to take along. If they’re coming with you, here’s how to move home gym equipment.
    • Move-out leftovers: everything left behind after the truck is loaded
    • Estate and downsizing cleanouts: full or partial home clear-outs

What we can’t take: hazardous materials such as paint, chemicals, fuel, batteries and medical waste.

Junk Removal That Fits Your Move

Stand-alone haulers leave you coordinating two companies. Atlas builds junk removal into your move:

    1. Before the move: declutter. Clear out the garage, attic and spare rooms before your moving survey. Fewer items mean a smaller, less expensive move. Our guide to decluttering before a move shows where to start.
    2. On move day: separate and haul. Tag what stays and what goes. Our crew loads the keepers and hauls away the rest.
    3. After the move: final cleanout. Leftovers in the old home, garage or storage unit? We clear them out so you can hand back the keys.

    Donate First, Landfill Last

Plenty of “junk” still has life left in it. Whenever possible, we set aside usable furniture and household goods for donation. Allied Van Lines partners with The Salvation Army, and giving before you move is one of the easiest ways to pack light with a charitable donation.

Got shelves full of books? The San Diego library accepts them, so donate your books instead of tossing them.

    Junk Removal FAQs

    Answers

How much does junk removal cost in San Diego?

Junk removal is usually priced by volume, meaning how much space your items take up, plus the labor and disposal involved. Heavy items, stairs and long carries can affect the price. Send us photos or schedule a walkthrough for a free quote. When it's bundled with a move, it's included in your moving estimate.

Do you offer junk removal if I'm not moving?

Call us and describe the job, and we'll let you know what's possible.

What happens to the items you haul away?

Whenever possible, we set aside usable furniture and household goods for donation through Allied Van Lines' partner, The Salvation Army. Recyclable materials are recycled, and the rest goes to licensed disposal facilities. Our goal is to keep as much as possible out of the landfill.

    What items can't you take?

We can't haul hazardous materials, including paint, solvents, chemicals, fuel, propane tanks, batteries, asbestos and medical waste. San Diego County runs household hazardous waste drop-off programs for these items. If you're not sure about something, ask when you request your quote.

Should I get rid of things before or after my move?

Before, whenever you can. Every item you remove before your moving survey lowers the weight or volume of your move, and that lowers your cost. It also means less to pack and unpack. Start with the garage, attic and closets, and we'll haul it all away in one trip. Our moving tips library has more ways to get ready.
