Pool Table Movers in San Diego

A slate pool table can weigh 500 to 1,000 lbs, and most of that weight is in slate slabs that crack if they’re lifted or carried wrong. That’s why you can’t roll a pool table onto a truck in one piece. Atlas Moving relocate pool tables in San Diego the right way: disassembled, padded, crated where needed and carefully reassembled at your new home.

How We Move a Pool Table

    1. Remove pockets and rails. Pockets, rails and aprons are unbolted and labeled.
    2. Remove the felt. The cloth is carefully removed from the slate.
    3. Separate the slate. Slate slabs (often three pieces) are unscrewed and lifted off the frame.
    4. Pad and protect. Each slab is wrapped in heavy moving pads and moved on its edge, never flat, to prevent cracking. High-value tables can be custom-crated.
    5. Disassemble the frame and legs, with all hardware bagged and labeled.
    6. Transport and reassemble. At the new home, we rebuild the frame, set the slate and reattach the rails.
    7. Level and re-felt. Our crew levels the slate and re-installs the felt.

    Tables We Move

We move slate pool and billiards tables in 7 ft, 8 ft and 9 ft sizes, along with snooker and carom tables and non-slate or MDF tables. Antique and heirloom billiards tables get extra care with our antique moving techniques. We can also move shuffleboard tables and other game-room furniture.

Moving a Pool Table Within Your Home or Across the Country

Some pool table moves are short, like a garage to a new game room or one floor to another. Others cross the county or the country. We handle local moves across San Diego County, moves anywhere in California with our intrastate movers, and moves out of state through the Allied Van Lines network.

If your new space isn’t ready, keep your table in our climate-controlled household storage in Poway during a remodel. And if it’s just the table, with no full move, our small moves program handles single-item shipments. Moving other heavy items too? We also move pianos, safes (how to move a safe) and home gym equipment.

Pool Table Movers Across San Diego County

We move pool tables throughout San Diego County, including La Jolla, Poway, Escondido, Carlsbad and Rancho Bernardo. Moving your whole home? See our San Diego movers.

We’ve moved heavy, delicate items for 100 years, starting with pianos in 1925. Our trained crews bring the right equipment for the job, including pads, dollies, straps and crating.

A Moving Company With a 100-Year Track Record

Atlas started in 1925 moving pianos for San Diego families and local piano stores, and that experience with heavy, delicate pieces carries into every pool table we move. In 1948 we became an agent for Allied Van Lines. Today we’re led by second-generation owner Tom Oakley, who has more than 40 years in the industry. Read our history or see our awards.

    Pool Table Moving FAQs

    Answers

How much does it cost to move a pool table in San Diego?

The cost depends on the table size, whether it's slate, stairs or tight turns, distance, and whether you need re-leveling, new felt or storage. Moving a table within the same home costs less than moving it across the county. Send us the details for a free quote.

Can a pool table be moved without taking it apart?

Not safely, if it's a slate table. Slate tables weigh 500–1,000 lbs, and moving one assembled can crack the slate, twist the frame and damage floors and doorways. Proper disassembly, with the slate moved on edge in pads, is the only way to protect it.

How long does it take to move a pool table?

Disassembly usually takes 1–2 hours, and reassembly and leveling take about 2–3 hours, depending on the table. Local moves are usually finished the same day. Long-distance moves follow your household delivery schedule.

Will my pool table need new felt after moving?

Not always. Felt that's in good condition can often be re-used if it's removed carefully. Older, worn or glued-on felt usually tears when it's removed and should be replaced. We'll assess the felt before the move and tell you what to expect.

Do you move pool tables up and down stairs?

Yes. Because the table is disassembled, even heavy slate pieces can be carried safely on stairs by a trained crew with the right equipment. Tell us about stairs, landings and turns when you request your quote, so we send the right team.
